Major General Devereaux graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1978 with a B.S. in International Affairs.  After receiving his commission as a second lieutenant he earned his pilot wings in 1979 at Reese Air Force Base, Texas. 

During his career, General Devereaux piloted the T-37 Tweet, the C-5 Galaxy, KC-135 Stratotanker, and the T-1 Jayhawk.   He held a variety of staff assignments that included avionics manager for the C-17 aircraft development program, tours in both the operations and logistics directorates of the Joint Staff, Director of Air Force Training Operations, and the USAF Director of Regional Affairs at the Pentagon.  

General Devereaux also held five commands including a C-5 flying squadron, a mobility operations group after 9/11, a flying wing and installation at RAF Mildenhall, UK, a technical training wing and installation at Sheppard AFB, Texas, and the Air Force Expeditionary Center at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ.  His last assignment was the Air Force’s Director of Operational Planning, Policy, and Strategy at the Pentagon.

After retiring from the Air Force in 2012, General Devereaux worked as a consultant to several defense industry firms, an energy start up, and various national security think tanks.  He is the past Chairman of the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia.  General Devereaux and his wife Elizabeth live in Asheville, North Carolina.
