Mission
The mission of the Alliance and Partnerships Committee is to educate, inform, research, and evaluate current and future US alliances and partnerships with a view to advocating continued active participation in these important relationships. These relationships have formed the cornerstone of US foreign and military policy since the end of World War II and their continuation is critical to the establishment of peace and security around the world. They enhance US national security and economic stability, and must be preserved as the US role in world affairs evolves.
Strategic Challenges
NATO has been the bedrock of European Security since its creation in 1949. The United States has encouraged member nations to spend 5% of GDP on defense in order to more equitably share the defense burden for Europe. We must continue to invest in European to ensure its success in the rapidly evolving security challenges in Western Europe for member nations, especially those bordering on Russia.
Alliances in the Indo-Pacific region continue to grow. US reinforcement of these alliances is critical to countering Chinese influence and enhance trading partnerships in the region.
Continued US participation in international organizations such as the United Nations is essential to promote US national interests throughout the world.
Shifts in US humanitarian aid around the world present new challenges to expand US influence and contribute to the continued growth and strengthening US partners, especially in South American and Africa
