Utilizing all elements of national power and emphasis on building partner relationships will help to minimize the risk of strategic miscalculation in the region.

Recognizing African governments’ sovereignty and agency in determining the continent’s future is our starting point. The U.S. can no longer take for granted African support for its policies. Moreover, it cannot assume that our embassies can do the job alone.

American values, such as liberty, individualism, diversity, social justice, and equality, are admired by people worldwide, and they influence change in the internal affairs of nations that adopt sound mores and laws to emulate our own.

The ACNSL supports robust arms control agreements that promote both the security of global nuclear arsenals and increased strategic stability. We recognize the value arms control treaties provide through increased transparency, clearly defined limits, intelligence sharing and governance oversight.

As a global leader in international partnerships, the United States of America has a responsibility to respond quickly and effectively to diplomatic issues that arise throughout the world.

Amid rapidly escalating tensions and provocative actions between the U.S., Iran, and partners in the region, the ACNSL concludes the best and only path forward to securing stability is through diplomacy.

The ACNSL strongly supports continued dialogue and negotiations with the DPRK. Although the DPRK is rapidly developing missile capabilities with the potential to strike the homeland, we reject those who promote military solutions via tactical strikes or ground incursions.
