Michael Schoenbaum (PhD in Economics, University of Michigan) is an economist and epidemiologist whose work focuses particularly on improving treatment and outcomes for individuals with common mental health problems. He has worked extensively on expanding and improving identification and treatment of suicide risk, and on improving treatment for children and adults with behavioral health issues in primary care. He has developed and implemented partnerships to advance health and health care, with federal agencies including the Army, DoD, VA, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the Social Security Administration; with employers, health insurers, health care systems, health IT vendors, quality and accreditation organizations, professional societies, advocates, NGOs and philanthropies; and with diverse health system stakeholders abroad, particularly in the Middle East.
