Cameron Hume is currently chair of the Maritime Humanitarian Aid Foundation, a $60 million per annum organization that provides humanitarian relief going to needy populations in Gaza and Sudan. He is also chair of the American Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, and previously served as chair of NOAA’s Ocean Exploration Advisory Board. He worked with the Richardson Center to negotiate the return of prisoners from Russia, Iran, Myanmar, and Venezuela.
As a Foreign Service officer he served as ambassador to Algeria, South Africa, and Indonesia, as well as charge d’affaires to Sudan. He was often involved in conflict negotiations: to lead UN Security Council talks that provided the basis for ending the Iran-Iraq War; to end Mozambique’s civil war; to convince President Mobutu of Zaire to resign his office; to end an Islamist uprising in Algeria; and, to stop the genocide in Darfur.
He served in Libya as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
